Everyone knows that moisture is a natural enemy of hardwood flooring, causing all manner of problematic behavior. So, what can you do about it?
That is a great question and one we will discuss in today's post. So read along to find out more about it.
Moisture and hardwood flooring
You often know you have a severe problem with moisture once signs begin to show. This can result in cupping, warping, crowning, or buckling and can sometimes leave you with irreparable damage.
The good news is there are several ways to resolve your moisture and humidity issues, the first of which is proper acclimation. This process can last from one to three days, and sometimes more, depending on the moisture level in your home and the weather on installation day.
But moisture can also come as environmental factors inside the house change, such as in areas where showers or saunas are present. Proper acclimation and a dehumidifier can resolve humidity issues when if you choose solid wood over engineered flooring.
However, when moisture is an issue from underneath, another method must be utilized to ensure proper lifespan and performance. Using a moisture barrier or vapor barrier beneath your flooring is a necessity if there are subfloor or ground issues, and we can tell you even more about it when you visit us in person.
